Twenty-twenty-five will be a bittersweet year for Mandarin Oriental, Miami.

On one hand, the property is celebrating a milestone as it marks 25 years in operation. However, the hotel has also announced it will officially close on May 31 to make way for a new chapter. The space will remain shuttered until 2030, making way for an entirely new Mandarin Oriental, Miami property as well as the Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Miami.

In a statement provided to New Times, Flavia Daudan-Caponi, general manager of the property, says, “For 25 years, Mandarin Oriental, Miami has been a beloved part of this vibrant city. We are deeply grateful to our guests, colleagues, and the Miami community for their loyalty and support. As we close this chapter, we look forward to celebrating our legacy and welcoming everyone to experience a haven of craftsmanship and culture for one last time.”

On the southwest shore of Brickell Key, the property currently includes 326 guest rooms and a variety of amenities, including an upscale cocktail lounge and martini bar, a three-level spa, and the acclaimed Peruvian restaurant La Mar by Gastón Acurio. Over the years, the property and its spa have achieved prestigious five-star status with Forbes Travel Guide and hosted celebs such as Will Smith and John Legend.

Leading up to its May closure, the property has a number of events planned to reflect on its notable past and showcase all that’s ahead. Planned events include Valentine’s Day celebrations with couples’ spa journeys, Champagne dinners, and a grand closing gala with live performances, retrospective exhibits, and more.

The property will reopen in 2030 in partnership with Hong Kong-based Swire Properties. Beyond the brand’s collaboration on the existing Mandarin Oriental, Miami, Swire Properties’ other developments include East Miami, Conrad Hong Kong, and the Temple House in Chengdu, China, among other projects.

Upon completion, the new Mandarin Oriental, Miami will include two towers. The South Tower, with 228 residences, will have interiors designed by Parisian designer Tristan Auer. The North Tower will consist of the new North American flagship Mandarin Oriental hotel with 121 rooms — including 34 suites — a signature spa, and multiple dining selections. The North Tower will also include 66 private residences and 28 hotel residences.

In total, the broader Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has 41 hotels, 12 residences, and 25 exclusive homes in 26 countries. On the local front, the brand is also slated to open the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences in Boca Raton later this year.
