Lonely Hearts Unite and Take Over

“I was driving my car/ I crashed and broke my spine/ So yes, there are things worse in life than/ never being someone’s sweetie,” sings Morrissey in his 2008 single “That’s How People Grow Up.” The British singer continues to deliver the same indulgent, lovelorn lyrics from his days with The Smiths in the early ’80s. He’s been the love-sicks’ go-to salve during the past three decades. So it’s fitting that Dangerfun is throwing Hated for Loving: A Smiths/Morrissey Tribute at Churchill’s the day after Valentine’s. Bands State Of, Club of Rome, Ordinary Boys (featuring members of Astari Nite, Rebel, Fuck Yeah!), and Girlfriend in a Coma (with members of Armada!, Low Visibility, and Ana De Lima) will cover Moz classics such as “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” and deep cuts like “You’re the One for Me, Fatty” as you tearfully recall the chubster that got away.
