Forty local groups and six parades will venture through the spankin-new Carnival Center for the Performing Arts (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). The annual Miami Carnival will be taking place outside, with judging at the Plaza for the Arts. Besides the Caribbean revelers, enjoy the spectacular Chinese dragon dance, Bahamian junkanoos, Samba Academy, and a Haitian rara procession. Established acts like Locos por Juana, ¡Mayday!, and Conjunto Progreso will get everyone dancing. Inside the center, enjoy musical performances by Black Violin, Cuban timba band Tiempo Libre, the Klezmer Company Orchestra Jazz Project, as well as dance by D Projects and IFE-ILE. The distinctive notes of the Florida Memorial Steelband will fill the concert hall. The extravaganza begins at noon, but visitors are advised to arrive early.
