Eyes on Miami: DJ Khaled, Trey Songz, Galantis, and More

It's not easy having eyes all over the scene, being around to take in all the wild visuals at all the worthwhile places in the city. There are, however, those parties and gallery openings where a fortunate photographer can point and shoot. Every week, in collaboration with WorldRedEye, New Times brings you a solid recap of all the recent experiences you may have missed around Miami. It's impossible to be everywhere, but hey, we can try to keep our Eyes on Miami.

Watr Grand Opening at 1 Hotel South Beach: 1 Hotel & Homes South Beach welcomed 50 of Miami’s most influential guests for a unique dining experience at its newest restaurant, Watr. Set in a picture-perfect scene, 18 stories above the bright lights of the city, Watr is an unforgettable venue that seems to float over the sea. Guided through an entry illuminated by a canopy of stringed lights and adorned with ambient greenery, invited guests met on the 1 Rooftop and were transported into a Polynesian paradise. Each guest was provided with a lei or wreath flower crown imported from Hawaii and were greeted by seafood samplings and libations courtesy of Watr’s dedicated cocktail-pairing connoisseur. Bringing its Hawaiian-Japanese-infused menu to life for the first time, the restaurant treated guests to courses that were brought in “waves.” Specializing in sushi, poke, and innovative cuisine, the tasting touted some of the restaurant’s most prized dishes, including a seaweed salad trio, poke trinity, an assortment of fresh sushi rolls, salmon and Wagyu steak entrées, and tropical desserts. As the night wound down, a surprise performance by a talented group of Polynesian dancers in traditional garb added a final touch to the celebratory evening.
