Gerard Damiano, director of Deep Throat, died over the weekend in Fort Myers at age 80. 1972's Deep Throat helped, for better or worse, push pornography into the billion-dollar industry it is today, as well as lended its name to the then-anonymous Watergate source. Much of the film, naturally, was shot in Miami. Sometimes when a person of such cultural significance passes on, flags fly at half-mast, but since most of Damiano's career was aimed at making sure things were at full mast, we'll still pretend the flags are flying in his honor. But we wouldn't be surprised if we saw a symbolic funeral procession around town led by the Bang Bus.
