"Cat Basel" to Bring Rescue Kitty-Inspired Art to Wynwood

If there's one thing that could make Basel better (other than an appearance by Banksy, free booze for everyone, and infinite parking), it's kittens. Kittens make everything better. And kitties of all kinds are the inspiration behind Cat Basel.

This feline-friendly exhibition in Wynwood will feature artwork created by rescue cats, cat photography, and other art inspired by all things kitteh. Basically, it's the cutest thing ever, and it's all to benefit rescue cats. What could be better than that?

The event is put on by Smitten With Kittens, a local rescue group that's been around for a couple years. These dedicated cat-lovers have a rescue network, and focus heavily on adoption.

Cat art is most definitely the wave of the future, so now's your chance to get in on the ground floor. There will be art on the premises created by the kitties themselves.

"We got some water-based, non-toxic paint and we put it on the posterboard and let the cats walk around on it. Some of them were not too happy about it, some of them didn't mind it," says Smitten With Kittens volunteer Tia Williams, laughing.

There'll also be photography and cat-inspired art made by humans, as well. It should offer a nice break from Basel madness.

And if you need more incentive to purchase some kitty creations, proceeds will benefit the host org, Smitten With Kittens, and the funds will go to help the many homeless cats in South Florida. Worthy cause. Kitty art. We'll see you there.

The event runs from 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday, and noon to midnight on Saturday at 266 NW 26 Street. And you can check out Smitten With Kittens on Facebook and Twitter.
