People have spun tall tales of love and adventure since the beginning of time. Prior to history books and the World Wide Web, storytelling was the only means to learn of our past selves and keep cultural traditions thriving. Sure, the stories were a bit embellished and fashioned so that listeners perched atop logs around campfires wouldn’t lose interest, but it was entertainment. The Art of Storytelling: 2009 Annual Family Festival Day is all about celebrating this time-tested craft.
Sit in wide-eyed amazement as you hear tales of briar rabbits and curious, crumb-dropping kiddies. Or just drop the young’uns off at the Miami-Dade Public Library — they could use a break from your gloomy yarns about the old woman who wishes she lived in a (childless) shoe. And if your lil’ ones have been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, or simply can’t STFU for a second, they have the option of puppet shows, arts and crafts, face painting, or a superstern librarian’s wrath. Let your youngsters choose how they whittle away the time — it’s not costing you a dime.
