If you watched Matt Damon’s 2015 film The Martian and thought, Hey, that looks like a fun time, you won’t want to miss this year’s III Points festival.
This October, III Points attendees will be able to explore Mars like a NASA astronaut — in virtual reality, of course.
Mars 2030, debuting at III Points this year, is a project of Fusion media network that used a partnership with NASA to create a representation of life on Mars as one of the first astronauts to visit the planet. Fusion virtual reality developer Julian Reyes designed the 3D rendition of the red planet, which lets participants wander past a space station and vehicles, and throughout the outdoor terrain.
Accompanying the virtual-reality technology and detailed visual art depicting Mars will be a musical composition by the London Symphony Orchestra. The project is a first of its kind for III Points, whose name references its three concentrations: music, art, and technology.
“We been working for four years to truly merge the three elements of music, art, and technology in our festival, and this year’s Mars 2030 installation really is our best example of all the three points in perfect synchronicity,” David Sinopoli, cofounder of III Points, said in a statement.
III Points runs October 7 through 9 at Mana Wynwood, 318 NW 23rd St., Miami. Single-day passes cost $70, and a three-day pass costs $125. Visit iiipoints.com.
