Baroness Vladka decides that feeding her raging alcohol addiction is more important than delivering melodic arias to audiences night after night, so she turns to ingénue Gwendoline Josephine Bellevoix Bouvier to fill in the operatic blanks. Soon the senior diva resents the junior’s verve, the younger believes her turn in the spotlight is long overdue, the lone piano player pounds out dramatic riffs, and hilarity ensues. It’s opera, it’s camp, and there are 18 costume changes that range from ballerina chic to Victorian fluff — oh, how Miami. And don’t dare say librettos combined with musical compositions aren’t your bag.
Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3, the Duelling Divas will take over the Colony Theater for an estrogen-fueled War of the Roses that your theater-loving heart can’t miss. The trio has won rave reviews from Dade County to Carnegie Hall, so it’s prime time you jumped on the diva bandwagon.
