William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a moonlit tale set in the woods of Fairyland, featuring the playful and incorrigible Puck. It’s a popular play performed on many stages across the world. But no one does Midsummer quite like The Donkey Show, opening Friday at the Adrienne Arsht Center (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). In this version, the fantastical story is set in the 1970s. Fairyland is a discotheque, the moon is a disco ball, and Puck wears platform shoes. Filled with roller skaters, feathered divas, and supergroovy sounds, this sexy, boogie-filled, fun-house rendition of Shakespeare’s classic tale of nymphs and love is not only a unique take on the tale but also a full-immersion experience for audiences. You can get on the dance floor and strike your John Travolta pose right along with the cast or watch the production from the side. Either way, an enchanted time is sure to be had by all looking to boogie with the Bard.
Wednesdays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., Aug. 17; Sat., Aug. 18. Starts: July 13. Continues through Aug. 12, 2012
