If the word “burlesque” conjures up images of Cher and Christina Aguilera vamping on the big screen, you have a lot of catching up to do. Their so-bad-it’s-really-bad movie doesn’t have much to do with the modern-day burlesque scene or the centuries-old art of the striptease.
Luckily for you, performer Erika Moon and her troupe of cabaret seductresses are coming to town to school you in the real world of burlesque. Erika Moon’s Burlesque Magnifique, taking over the Fillmore (1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach) this Saturday, will pay tribute to both the vintage days of cabaret and the neo-burlesque movement that began in the 1990s and has grown in popularity to this day. Moon, a French dancer with nearly two decades of experience on the cabaret circuit, brings eight performers to South Beach to perform a dozen acts in the span of 90 minutes. Expect a truly professional tease, complete with dazzling costumes and a side of comedy. (It’s hard to take yourself too seriously when you have tassels attached to your nipples.)
