One of the most entertaining things about the Second Saturday Art Walks is discovering the weird media artists often employ in their work. This past weekend, Agustina Woodgate put on a clinic on the subject in “Collectivism,” her solo show at the Spinello Gallery featuring works made from 3000 bricks of human hair, 36,000 yards of fishing line, and thousands of teddy bear pelts. But there were other galleries like LMNT showing some weird stuff like collages crafted from coca leaves to a gorgeous shawl-like tapestry at Dot FiftyOne, which at 40 feet long, soar to the height of a small apartment building. These tapestries are woven from the guts of 338 cassette tapes. Here are some of our favorites works using weird media:
