Keep Miami New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $7,500 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Downtown Miami is a work in progress. Amid the giant glass and steel structures that continue to sprout like weeds, there’s an earnest and dedicated group of culture-lovers striving to populate the oft-desolate area with fun events. The Cultural Development Group, for instance, is a nonprofit that seeks to bring Miami’s city streets to life with the sounds of music. One of its coolest projects is Miami Unsigned, a weekly musical showcase that shines a light on our great repository of local talent.
“We’re working with the mayor to put as much live music as we can in downtown Miami. We do different genres every week, and we welcome all kinds of artists,” explains founder and director Eric Shenkman. Sounds sweet to us, dude. Tonight Miami Unsigned takes over Soya y Pomodoro, and the smooth sounds of the Dereck Fairholm Trio will fill the lofty space. Stop by for a hot dose of local jazzadelic rhythms at 9:00.
