For many who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, The Goonies is still the coolest movie of all time. It’s a film about a group of kids who find a treasure map and embark on the ultimate Indiana Jones-style adventure. There are pirates, treasure, booby traps, and a young Corey Feldman blurting out curse words. You know, just like any cool kid would.
And who can forget Sloth, the forsaken and deformed Fratelli brother whom Chunk befriends in the end? They simply don’t make ’em like that anymore.
This Friday, you can watch The Goonies for old times’ sake at the North Beach Bandshell (7275 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) for Friday Night Movie Night, a weekly series that features a different film each week through May. Movies are projected onto a jumbo screen at the historic outdoor amphitheater, which is the perfect setting for joining Mikey, Mouth, Data, and the rest of swashbuckling gang for an adventurous night.

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
