Only a handful of weeks remain until the official opening of the King Kong ride at Universal Studios Orlando, and the theme park has announced more details and revealed images of the beast himself.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong is a multisensory, multidimensional attraction. So far, we know it will be a safari-like expedition where riders will be taken for trip on the mystical island. Expect to come “face-to-face with the legendary beast in the flesh,” a news release says. “So close, [you’ll] feel his breath sweep across your skin and his thunderous roar reverberate through every bone in your body.”
Images of the giant animatronic ape were released this morning. Kong doesn’t look as sweet and helpful as one would hope — after all, the premise of the ride is that he saves the explorers (the riders). He has large yellow eyes and a scowl that’s frightening even on an inanimate object.

Field notes on the creature read, “Megaprimatus: ancient species of giant ape; approximately three stories tall; head larger than an automobile; 18 feet wide shoulders; distinctive scars, likely from battles with Vastatosaurus Rex; expresses human-like emotion.”

It seems that within the walls of Skull Island, dinosaurs and creatures of unknown origin aren’t too keen on visitors. When Kong appears, it’s unclear if he’s there to help you — or harm you. As Universal’s creative director Mike West boldly puts it in a new behind-the-scenes video: “This is his world, and you’re at his mercy.”
