Today through Sunday, make sure you take time out to tilt your head back, point your nose skyward, and enjoy the sweet smell of the World Orchid Conference. We’ll have you know this isn’t just any old orchid show. The prestigious event is fondly referred to as “the Olympics of orchids,” and it’s returning
It’s possible to experience orchid overload at such an event; literally hundreds of specimens will be on display. There’ll be all kinds of amazing blossoms, from the delightfully fragrant to the ones that will please your eyes but offend your nostrils. “It’s the most fascinating flower in the world,” gushes conference co-chairperson and longtime orchid grower Robert Fuchs. “There’s more different kinds of orchids than any type of plant. We have flowers that are the size of a pinhead [and] flowers that are 14 inches across.” The show runs through January 27. Pay $20 and enjoy the show in full bloom today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Miami Mart.
