Keep Miami New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $7,500 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Diehipster.com described a recent Tweed Ride in Brooklyn as a bunch of attention-starved nasaltards, dressed like Sherlock Holmes, biking ten blocks. But what’s so horrible about tobacco pipes and houndstooth? We say send all of those bearded urban gents and bespectacled ladies south. Our streets could use a little handlebar-mustache finesse. We’re blind from all the neon bike shorts on the Rickenbacker Causeway.
Our corneas will get a rest Saturday when Miami Bike Scene and Green Mobility Network host their second annual Tweed Ride. Clip on your bow ties, yank on your argyle socks, and make sure your Hipstamatic apps are ready to document the anachronistic ride. The debonair dash starts at 10 a.m. at University Metrorail Station and continues through Banyan-canopied streets to the Coral Gables Museum for brunch and a raffle. Along the way, Professor David Rifkind of Florida International University’s School of Architecture will provide commentary on Gables landmarks. Also providing commentary will be the requisite hipster haters armed with roadside quips about your choice in newsboy caps.
