We walk around, absorbed in our own existence, our minds on some unattainable pot of gold. If we were left to our own devices, who would take care of the world? Not to worry: Fairies have us covered. “If you’re out trimming your garden or picking up trash, that is fairies at work. They make you aware of nature and help you want to take care of nature,” says head fairy Atena Komar. And the fairies in Atena’s world do more than keep your grass green; they throw festivals too. In fact they throw a festival named New Times’s 2007 Best Reason to Stay in Miami for the Summer. The Tropical Fairy Sacred Sevens Selebration is the most fairy-licious way to spend your 7-7-07.
From 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., good fairies, dark fairies, and gargoyles will descend upon the Unitarian Universalist Sanctuary and Garden to celebrate this day of fairy magick. Never participated in a fairy blessing? Not sure what to do when a gargoyle pulls up a seat next to you at the drum circle? Fear not. “People should come with an open mind, expect to be silly and happy and cheerful and joyful all day long. There’s no room for sourpusses or crying people,” Atena says.
