Some think of it as nothing more than a glorified strut down an empty walkway, but a closer look reveals that fashion shows are pure theatrics. From the perfectly sculpted figures — also known as “models” — down to the clock that times each entrance and every wardrobe change, it’s all a delicate dance to achieve the ideal venue to display wearable art. The lighting must be perfect, highlighting the fashions while hiding the crowd. The music sets the mood: up-tempo for bright, flowing fabrics or melancholy for a collection of grays.
The Ebony Fashion Fair has toured the nation for more than 50 years, showing a collection of the season’s top looks from the world’s top designers. This Friday at 8 p.m., the show stops at the Miami Mahi Shrine, bringing a trunk full of goodies from this year’s show The Runway Report: What’s Hip. What ’s Hot. What’s Now! Expect to see bold designs worn by beautiful people, and prepare to gush.
