It was the summer of 2010 and all was right in the basketball world, at least for fans of the Miami Heat. Wade was sticking around, and Bosh and LeBron were taking their talents to South Beach (or at least a short drive from there). The Big Three, the Three Kings, the modern-day Dream Team – whatever you called them, they were going to win it all. What could possibly go wrong?
A whole lot of things, as it turns out. After a failed NBA Finals run, 2010 was not our year, and the 2011 season almost didn’t happen at all. But now the lockout is over, and this year has yet to be spoiled by our own high expectations. The first home game of this truncated official season will take place against the Boston Celtics this Tuesday at American Airlines Arena. Last year, the matchup would have been billed “the Big Three vs. the Fantastic Four.” This year, maybe we should just be grateful to have basketball at all.
