It’s time to bust out your freshest pair of Jordans, pull a DJ Unk, and walk it out during the fifth-annual Lauren’s Kids Walk in My Shoes. Founded by childhood sexual abuse victim Lauren Book, Walk in My Shoes is a 1,500-mile, 42-day trek across Florida that draws sexual abuse survivors and advocates on a mission “to raise awareness and promote supportive legislation.” Taking place throughout National Child Abuse Prevention Month in March and National Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, the walk has brought together tens of thousands of Floridians in support of Lauren’s mission to prevent childhood sexual abuse. Participants can join the walk through three points in the day, including a portion scheduled with the Miami Heat organization. So go out and rep hard for Miami’s philanthropic side. Seriously, what’s better than doing some good and getting a little exercise out of it? Get to steppin’ Friday for the Miami leg of the walk. The starting line is at BB&T (1200 Brickell Ave., Miami), with participant registration beginning at 8:15 a.m. The Miami Heat walk begins at 11:30 a.m. at the American Airlines Arena, and the interim walk at W.J. Bryan Elementary begins at 2:30 p.m. The event is free. Visit laurenskids.org.
