Though Dave Grusin might not exactly be a household name among jazz fans, almost everyone has heard his music via his Oscar-nominated scores for features such as The Fabulous Baker Boys, Havana, and Goonies. In celebration of his storied career, he will lead the 70-piece Henry Mancini Orchestra for an evening that will blend some of his jazz work with the movie music he’s written over the years.
“For the whole first half, we’re doing film scores and so forth that I’ve done,” he says. “The second half is a live performance of the jazz version of West Side Story [1997]. Somehow we’re going to do all of the tracks that are on that record.” Grusin will share the stage with guests Arturo Sandoval, Jon Secada, and Nestor Torres, which makes this a concert not to be missed.
