Any artistic capital worth its salt knows that education is the foundation of any great city. Continuing to pave the way in fostering arts knowledge in Miami’s youth is the National YoungArts Foundation, which identifies and supports the next generation of artists in the visual, literary, design, and performing arts. The National YoungArts Campus in Miami (2100 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) often welcomes back illustrious alumni through master classes and performances to inspire the latest group of creative minds.
The organization is taking advantage of Art Basel Miami Beach with a slew of exciting performances that feature some of the biggest names in the arts. The festivities kick off Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. with the Slow Motion Walk, an exercise designed by performance artist Marina Abramovic. Members of the public are encouraged to join performance artist, dancer, and YoungArts alumna Brittany Bailey (2008, Dance) and trained facilitators. Slow Motion Walk is free daily through Sunday. Thursday night at 7, YoungArts and III Points will present singer-songwriter, producer, and dancer FKA Twigs, who will close out her global tour. Friday welcomes producer and singer James Blake at 8 p.m., and Saturday features producer and artist SBTRKT at 7 p.m. Tickets for the three performances start at $37 each. Additionally, a continuing pop-up lounge runs through Saturday, which includes light bites, craft cocktails, and performances by YoungArts alumni Grace Weber, Elliott Skinner, and Kate Davis. We’re thankful for you. Are you thankful for us?
We feel thankful for our staff and for the privilege of fulfilling our mission to be an unparalleled source of information and insight in Miami. We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community.
