Area Stage has given tomorrow’s theater professionals a bloody good challenge with its summer’s conservatory production of Sweeney Todd.  High school and college students spent all of 25 hours over three weeks preparing for this morbidly beautiful warhorse whose operatic musical style and complex orchestrations have proved formidable to even the most seasoned theater companies. You won’t see all of its two and a half hours and 27 songs in this truncated production — the original show is crazy long anyway — but your favorite scenes are sure to remain in place, in all of their defiantly adult splendor. If the kids can get through this, they can get through just about anything.
