Finally there’s a way to fill in that long pause between Project Runway episodes: The Miami Beach Cinematheque’s Funkshion Fashion Week 2009 film series is showing documentaries about fashion heavy weights like Largerfeld, Valentino and Chanel this weekend. On Saturday, catch the 7 p.m. screening of Yves Saint Laurent: 5 avenue Marceau 75116 Paris, which follows the creation of Saint Laurent’s final Spring line. The bespectacled, Algerian-born designer passed away last year but he is remembered as the first designer to tout a ready-to-wear collection and who was able to attract celebrity clients like Catherine Devenue even in his early days. Saint Laurent is particularly celebrated for his iconic and androgynous Le Smoking suit, a masculine tuxedo often worn shirtless by lady celebs on the red carpet. Va-voom. Tickets cost $10 or better yet, sign up for a MBC membership and reap $7 tickets all year round.
