Harvest Fest is an afternoon All Hallows’ Eve fair featuring mask-making, a bounce house and slides, a “Thriller” dance instructional (you know you’ve always wanted to learn), and lots of other festive fun, all to celebrate the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center’s 40th anniversary. This awesome org is all about community empowerment through the arts, and it’s been doing it for four decades.

Bring your kids or nephews or the neighborhood children (with permission, of course) for costume contests, face-painting, storytelling, and plenty of other age-appropriate activities. There’ll also be a free hot-dog stand for children, food distribution for families, and hot eats for sale. You’re probably sick of the same old Halloween debauchery anyway. Isn’t it time to retire the Hellraiser mask?

The event runs Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (6161 NW 22nd Ave., Miami). Admission is free with a nonperishable food donation. Visit ahcacmiami.org or call 305-638-6771.

Fri., Oct. 31, 4 p.m., 2014
