The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $10,000 by August 9.

$10,000

Sure, you could just wander into the kitchen and watch your mom slice an onion, or you could sit in a giant concert hall and gawk at celebrity chefs mincing garlic. Following other Food Network stars such as Anthony Bourdon and Eric Ripert, Emeril Lagasse will end season two of the Arsht Center’s Celebrity Chefs series this Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Knight Concert Hall.

Local chef Norman Van Aken will host Lagasse, who will not only demonstrate his culinary prowess but also share how he came to choose the life of a Cajun chef and not that of a drummer. (Trivia: An accomplished percussionist, Lagasse was invited to attend the New England Conservatory of Music. Instead, he chose to shout, “Bam!” as he adds spice to dishes.) Tickets cost $25 to $200; the big bucks let you snap a photo with Lagasse at the postshow cocktail party.

Sat., Jan. 9, 8 p.m., 2010
