The FIFA World Cup is just a short punt away, kicking off next week. You’re in Miami, surrounded by more fans of the sport than perhaps anywhere else in the country. Soccer fever is at an all-time high, thanks to David Beckham’s intentions to bring a pro team to the Magic City.
But you still don’t know a spot kick from a hand ball, and your soccer ignorance is giving you serious FOMO.
Fear no more. The Coral Gables Museum (285 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables) has you covered with “12 Stadiums, 12 Cities: Brazil 2014 World Soccer Destination,” an exhibit highlighting the new architecture featured on stadiums in each of the 12 Brazilian World Cup host cities this year. Curated by architect Adriana Sabino, the show includes photos, videos, interactive kiosks, and other ways for you to learn about the buildings hosting this year’s matches. It might even help you understand the game itself.
You can test your newfound knowledge at the museum’s outdoor plaza, which will transform into a soccer field and simulcast ESPN’s coverage from Brazil during the Cup. Experts will lead workshops such as “Soccer 101,” designed specifically for clueless would-be hooligans like yourself.
