The World Cup is over. But guess what! Soccer is played more often than a couple of weeks every four years. In fact, one of the top European league preseason tournaments will end right here in Miami.
The Guinness International Champions Cup features eight of the best teams in the world, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and AC Milan. The squads will have been competing for nearly two weeks in stadiums across the States and Canada prior to the championship match Monday night at Sun Life Stadium (347 Don Shula Dr., Miami Gardens).
There’s even a local connection: The tournament was spearheaded in part by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and former New York Jets brass as a way to spur interest in the sport. The inaugural tournament last year drew more than 300,000 attendees, and some experts estimate twice the audience this year.
