The Florida Panthers want to make sure lightning doesn’t strike twice. When the puck drops tonight, the Panthers will be facing Southeast division rival Tampa Bay Lightning for a third time this NHL season.
In the first meeting in Tampa Bay, former Panther Chris Gratton propelled the Lightning to victory in a low-scoring affair that ended 2-1. To even up the early-season series, the Panthers had to hold on to win their next match 6-4, after almost losing control of a 4-0 lead. Sweet charity will be on our side — Panthers’ rookie defenseman Cory Murphy began a personal pledge drive at the beginning of November. He’ll be donating $250 for every goal and $100 for every assist he records the rest of the season to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The sportsmanlike act is being performed in the name of Murphy’s mom, a breast cancer survivor. Help the Panthers protect home ice as the battle for bragging rights in the state of Florida begins at 7:30 at the BankAtlantic Center.
