Some festivals wobble into town with a whimper, others with a cough; then you have Jazz in the Gardens. This two-day extravaganza of smooth grooves is coming down Dan Marino Boulevard riding the sweet sounds of George Benson’s guitar, the immortal pipes of Chaka Khan, and whichever musical trick Wyclef decides to pull out of his hat.
For the third year in a row, Dolphin Stadium will be the place to be for jazz lovers from Florida City to Fort Lauderdale. If you eschew the aggressive genres of music for a sound you can two-step to — or bob your head real cool-like to — today and tomorrow the stars you love will be bringing it right to your back yard. Today, beginning at 4 p.m., both the legendary (the O’Jays, Nancy Wilson, and Anthony David) and the soon-to-be legendary (Kem and Chrisette Michelle) will juice your ears with the sounds of jazz. And with that as your soundtrack, the rest of your body will enjoy the array of ethnic foods, drinks, and souvenirs for sale. Admission starts at $25. Visit www.jazzinthegardens.com for details and www.ticketmaster.com for, you know, tickets.
