Robert is the only unmarried man in his circle of friends. This is mainly because he’s afraid of commitment and has three girlfriends. But mostly it’s because he’s afraid of commitment. On his 35th birthday, when he’s confronted by his five married couple friends, he tries to make sense of the institution of marriage by examining his past through musical numbers.
Told through vignettes of random moments in Robert’s life, Company is Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim’s innovative musical trip about one man’s incurable aversion to getting hitched. Through his musical odyssey and exploration of why he refuses to commit to any one woman, Robert learns a few lessons about life and finally decides with whom he wants to spend the rest of his life. Or does he? Catch the Main Street Players’ production of this musical comedy at the Main Street Playhouse this Friday.
