Fans of musical theater and the hit television show Glee are in for a one-night-only treat at 8 p.m. Saturday with Idina Menzel in the Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall. Menzel, who received the 2004 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Elphaba in Wicked, will bring her wide range of talents to Miami, performing songs from various genres, including jazz, pop, and rock. She’ll also sing Broadway hits from Wicked and Rent, as well as songs from her album I Stand.
Well known for her roles in the stage musicals Rent and Wicked, Menzel recently starred in Glee, creating a whole new generation of fans. Just don’t expect a quiet evening — Menzel can belt out notes with the best of them. Just listen to “Defying Gravity” from Wicked. Your ears might hurt a little afterward, but it’s worth it.
