Contrary to popular opinion, the British box office smash The Full Monty was about more than naked men letting it all hang out. The plot explores universally resonant issues of corporate downsizing, economic devastation, and desperation. Faced with poverty and despair after losing their jobs in a steel mill, a few blokes decide to compete with the local Chippendales all-male revue. To overcome their physical inadequacies, these working class heroes realize the only thing they have to lose is their pants. But examining The Full Monty for its deeper meaning is like reading Playboy for the articles. This movie became a successful Broadway musical because it contains irreverent humor, great music, and, of course, a big surprise ending (nudge nudge, wink wink). Catch the preview tonight at 8:00 at Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. Tickets cost $30 tonight, $37.50 for weeknight shows and matinees, and $45 for Friday and Saturday evenings. Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Wed., March 15, 2 p.m.; Wed., March 22, 2 p.m. Starts: March 9. Continues through April 9
