If you consider the late-Sixties psych/sapsters the Turtles as “that band that sang ‘Happy Together,’” you need to revisit them. Their arsenal of hit singles runs the gamut of poppy ditties, such as “She’d Rather Be with Me” and “You Baby (Ain’t Nobody but You),” to the swingin’ serenade “Elenore.” After the group dissolved, Flo and Eddie kept right on rockin’, first with Zappa and the gang, and then on the air as radio personalities. They’ve remained staples of the industry, singing backup for the Ramones, T-Rex, Psychedelic Furs, and Steely Dan, and they’re still touring and charming every crowd in their path.
Granted, their onstage banter is now focused less on psychedelics and more on getting to bed early and cleaning their dentures, but their delivery is endearing to the point of being giggle-worthy. Pile on your tie-dye, douse yourself with patchouli, load up the VW bus, and head north so you can catch Flo and Eddie at Hippiefest. They will be playing with Eric Burdon and the Animals, Jack Bruce of Cream, Badfinger, and others Sunday evening at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre. Reserved seats range from $50 to $65.
