Forget the ballet slippers and tutus; tonight the ballerinas will don heels. The only tight buns you’ll see will be the dancers’ derrières, because they are letting their hair down for the premiere of Lounge 2200, a sexy jazz work with a club setting and a soundtrack of steamy soul music from the Fifties and Sixties.
Miami City Ballet is converting a rehearsal space into a 200-seat theater for the Open Barre series at its studios. The new piece is influenced by MCB choreographers Rafi Maldonado and Liz Malm’s work in theater and music videos. A $25 Open Barre ticket includes an actual open bar, so the audience can also let its hair down. Tonight’s show includes a performance at 7 and drinks at 8. If you see Saturday night’s 8 show with MCB’s young professional group, you can enjoy an afterparty with the dancers at Rokbar for $50.
