The Everglades is a natural treasure of ecosystems where visitors can share close encounters with wildlife, ride airboats, and take trams through Shark Valley. But if you’ve ever visited the River of Grass during the summer, it can feel more like walking into a mosquito melee than communing with nature. Luckily, the folks at Everglades National Park have discovered a clever solution: organize a series of family-friendly, humidity-free Everglades Movie Nights.

On every third Friday of the month through November, join park rangers for free popcorn, juice, and a movie on the big screen at the Ernest Coe Visitor Center. The theme of the film festival is wildlife, history, and the environment, sans bug bites. This Friday’s feature will be Pixar’s animated movie Wall-E, an entertaining commentary on consumerism for kids and adults alike.

Fri., Aug. 21, 7 p.m., 2009
