When you live in Miami — and when the idea of “summer vacation” is nothing more than a distant memory — the approach of the sticky season loses something of its magical energy. The Marcia Milhazes Dance Company, which performs tonight and tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. at the Byron Carlyle Theater, aims to invoke a little of that special enchantment in its current work, Tempo de Verão (Time of Summer, if you don’t fala portugues).

Milhazes, a native of Rio de Janeiro, draws on the sultry rhythms and summertime waltzes of that city to evoke the warmth and sensuality of the season. With sets designed by her sister, renowned artist Beatriz Milhazes, the work also explores the relationship between dance and the visual arts. Tempo de Verão will take you through the experiences and emotions of summer, but, thankfully, with less humidity than the real thing.

March 16-17, 8:30 p.m.
