What do the busy and the lazy do when an art collection is too far to visit?

Enter, Salvador Dali.
The Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, won’t be the only Dali art exhibit in the state this week. The Dali Miami exhibition — the largest South Florida has ever seen outside of a football night streaking — will be featured at the Moore Building starting March 7, and will be showcasing more than 200 multi-media pieces during a five-day stint.

Salvador Domènec Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, Marquis de Púbol — better known as Salvador Dalí, is referred to as the “father of surrealism.”
As if Miami during the week isn’t surreal enough, one of his best known sculptures, Venus de Milo With Drawers, and his oil painting, Montre Molle will both be featured at the exhibit. Who wouldn’t want to see a mutilated version of Venus de Milo, anyway?
Un Chien Adalou, a 17-minute film from 1929 in which Dalí collaborated with friend/director Luis Buñel will also be available for everyone’s viewing pleasure.
Dalí Miami’s collection will also include the full series of pop-up books, titled Dix Recette d’Immoralite, or for us non-French folk, “Ten Recipes for Immortality” from 1973. The book series boasts everything from a custom lollipop to vials in a tin box. Vials of what, exactly? We’re not entirely sure, but it’s enticing enough to make us want to check it out.
The only thing that might make this exhibit better would be if Dali himself were there. That’s perhaps asking a bit too much from him, though. As for the rest of you surface dwellers, don’t miss out.
