Thirty-three years after gracing us with its delightful big-screen presence, ’80s cult classic Xanadu is back (and better than ever) as part of the City of Miami Beach Arts in the Parks’ SoundScape Cinema Series. Presented by the Marilyn and Edward Gadinsky Charitable Foundation, the SoundScape Cinema Series is now in its third installment, coming fast and furious every Wednesday with free screenings of everyone’s favorite movies. And having aged like a fine wine, Xanadu is on deck to satisfy all your way-back Wednesday cravings.
Unfolding like a primo acid trip — complete with dancing Olympic muses, a roller-skating Olivia Newton-John, and a soundtrack cheesier than cheddar — Xanadu is like a night at Hot Wheels, except with fewer screaming children and more spandex. Starring our favorite Pink Lady and Gene Kelly of Singin’ in the Rain fame, Xanadu is equal parts fantasy film and movie musical, topped off with a heaping helping of campy fun.
