Washington, D.C. native Regie Cabico is nationally recognized as a playwright, writer, and Asian-American gay poet. His work has been featured in more than 30 anthologies, including Spoken Word Revolution, The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry, Aloud: Voices From the Nuyorican Poets Café, and Chorus. He has also been a co-editor for Beltway Poetry Quarterly and has shared the stage with luminaries such as Allen Ginsberg, Patti Smith, Jesse Eisenberg, Stanley Tucci, and Lupe Fiasco. And now he’s coming to Miami as part of Tigertail Productions’ gay and lesbian teen spoken-word project, SpeakOut.
The free reading and performance, taking place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Wednesday at the Betsy Hotel (1440 Ocean Dr., Miami Beach), is only one of the many events Cabico will attend when he returns to Miami for a weeklong residency for SpeakOut, which will include free workshops in public schools, poetry slams, artist residencies, and performances.
Tigertail Productions, the team behind SpeakOut, works to bring performers and poets to Miami every year to lead workshops for teens who are finding their identities and learning how to express themselves.

Wed., Feb. 5, 6:30-8:30 p.m., 2014
