Fashion designer, philanthropist, wife, mother, and wrap-dress pioneer Diane von Furstenberg has inspired generations of women. The fashion icon brings her new book, The Woman I Wanted to Be, to Miami this Tuesday to impart the lessons she’s learned during her epic career.

The book is divided into two sections: The Woman I Am, which details important elements of the designer’s life and personality, and The Business of Fashion, which chronicles her decades-long career. In six chapters, Furstenberg reflects on her roots, love, and beauty, as well as the three distinct phases of her professional life: “The American Dream,” which covers her success as a young European princess turned American fashion designer; “The Comeback Kid which details her relaunching her business and the iconic dress that started it all; and “The New Era,” in which she reflects on the modern world of DVF and creating a legacy that will live beyond her.

Furstenberg and her interviewer, Emmy-nominated journalist Ana B. Remos, will speak to guests about the work at Books & Books at Bal Harbour Shops (9700 Collins Ave., Bal Harbour) at 6:30 p.m. RSVP to the free event at eventbrite.com. Call 305-864-424.

Tue., Dec. 2, 6:30 p.m., 2014
