Sasha Bezzubov has a taste for calamity. The Ukrainian-American shutterbug has traveled the world documenting the aftermath of hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. This Wednesday at 7 p.m., Bezzubov turns his incendiary lens on the West Coast’s annual wave of uncontrollable blazes with “Wildfire” at Gallery I/D, a smoldering set of shots taken in California between 2003 and 2007.
These large-format prints depict the charred remains of ruined homes and vast stretches of glowing forests. In one, a copse of torched, leafless trees appears like a platoon of defeated, soot-caked soldiers staggering from a smoking battlefield on its march to obscurity.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 8. Continues through Oct. 20, 2010
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
