After a long week of work and a late night of Friday indulgences, most of us don’t wake up at the crack of dawn Saturday, especially not to throw on our running shoes. But once in a while, an event worthy of a groggy morning compels us from the comforts of our weekend slumber.

The Miami/Fort Lauderdale affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure invites you to spend this Saturday morning supporting a good cause. For the 14th year, the 5K run/walk will raise money to fund quality care and research for a breast cancer cure. The event will kick off at Bayfront Park with a procession of survivors and a ceremony in their honor. For younger participants, there will be a short-distance tots’ run and a kids’ tent with games, face painting, and a bounce house. The event begins at 7:30 a.m.; race time is 8:30. Registration costs $27 to $35.
Sat., Oct. 17, 7:30 p.m., 2009

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
