Where are the future masters of American literature? Maybe they’re living in caves until they must say goodbye to the wolves that raised them. Or maybe they are expatriates living in Prague, surviving on goulash and begging for a living. We’re not sure, but at least some of them are alumni of Florida International University’s Master of Fine Arts Program, young scribes following in the footsteps of poet Richard Blanco and Mystic River author Dennis Lehane.
See them this Sunday at 6 p.m. when Books & Books hosts the annual FIU Alumni Reading. Performers will include Joan Cochran, J.J. Colagrande, Diane Mooney, Emma Trelles, and Miami New Times’ very own P. Scott Cunningham. Renowned writers Dan Wakefield and Les Standiford will read tributes to Anthony Gagliani and Barbara Parker. Admission is free.
Sun., Oct. 4, 6 p.m., 2009
