I have a confession. Sometimes, at 8:00 p.m., I turn to the Food Network and watch Emeril Live. I know, I know — all that bam-ming can grate on your last nerve. But there’s something magical about Emeril at work, and watching the audience groan and grin like idiots can be irresistible. One thing ol’ Em’ doesn’t do, though, is let the audience sprinkle a little essence over their own plates. That’s why the Cooking Demos at La Cuisine Gourmet are worth a night off the couch every Wednesday. This week’s demo is led by star chef Michael Schwartz of the soon-to-open Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in the Design District, and unlike certain TV chefs, he’s going to let participants participate. “I want to help people get more connected to the food than just watching me work. I’ll let them shape the pasta, cut it, roll it out,” the charming Schwartz says. His three-course demo begins at 7:00 p.m. No bam-ming allowed.
Wed., Jan. 31, 7 p.m.
