Advisory for Miami-Dade County: Beware of roving bands of comedians temporarily ensconced in Coral Gables for the 2009 Miami Improv Festival. If you see a pack of three or more hyperactive, poorly dressed, predominantly male adults who seem to share an overwhelming number of inside jokes and references to syndicated cartoons, stay calm. Improv groups are not dangerous. But they are hungry for your suggestions. If they accost you and request a relationship or information, say the first thing that pops into your head, provided it’s not an audience cliché like “pimp and ho” or “gynecologist’s office.” Dumb suggestions get them agitated. But ignoring them will make your weekend more boring.
For maximum hilarity, seek them out at Just the Funny Theater this Friday night, beginning with the “Model Citizens” show at 8 p.m., the “Nuclear Family” at 9, and the “Just the Funny” main-stage cast at 10. Each show costs ten dollars, except The Nuclear Family, which is $15. The festival runs through Sunday and features more shows from local and national troupes, plus workshops where you can learn the methods behind these creatures’ madness.
