If you’ve been paying attention to our Bike Blog (blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/bike_blog), you know we think traveling on two wheels is supercool. Sure, the helmet can kind of kill the wind-in-your-hair buzz you get from riding in the car, but an awesome bell and some tassels on your handlebars more than make up for it. So today and every second Saturday of the month, roll out your hip lowrider, old-school Schwinn, or ultrarugged BMX and take part in the Miami Beach Community Bike Ride.
The ride is two hours of scenic views from 88th Street to Ocean Drive and North Bay Road, all led by an A-list-worthy security detail from the Miami Beach Police Department. Navarro Discount Pharmacies will give riders a cold bottle of H2O; just bring your helmet and that cute little bike. It’s free to ride. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the Miami Beach Bicycle Center. Call 305-674-0150, or visit www.miamibeachfl.gov.
Sat., Sept. 8, 8:15 a.m.
