If you were lucky to be a member of the elite crowd that tasted the cultural flavors of uptown New York’s Havana San Juan, you might have watched Celia Cruz sway her hips to the conga while Ol’ Blue Eyes and Sammy Davis looked on. That era shaped the salsa and mambo of today, and finally the ’50s are back, at the Gansevoort South Hotel’s Plunge Rooftop Pool & Bar Lounge, with Havana San Juan.
Each Wednesday, touch the sky for a Latin music revival that was designed to bring a golden era of music back to South Beach and make you dance. Complimentary daiquiris and mojitos will flow from 8 to 9 p.m., hand-rolled cigars will abound, and in honor of your two left feet, professional dancers will pepper the dance floor with moves you shouldn’t try at home.
