The Swim Gods heard soggy South Florida’s cry for help, and they politely listened.
“Let there be sun!” the Gods said (and loads of humidity to compliment the otherwise nice weather). But Miami brushed that off. There were more important battles to fight at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim yesterday: hour-long valet waits, delayed schedules, and sand creeping in your heels at The Raleigh Hotel. But Miami ladies and gents sucked it up, put their best fashion week game face on, and the shows went on.
It was 7 p.m. and we sat in our seats, hoping the Poko Pano show would begin at the time scheduled. But it’s Miami and nothing here every goes as planned, so we should have known better. After a few guests snapped photos of each other and a few others shamelessly took selfies, the lights and music finally turned on.

The Brazilian swimsuit label Poko Pano never fails the sexy factor. Designer Paola Robba sure knows how to keep up with a country’s reputation. For this collection, Poko Pano embraced penguin-print, cheetah print, stripes, a yin-yang feel, and flowers — while oozing sex appeal and diversity. It jumped right into the beaches of Brazil with a combination of sophistication and flirty fun.
Standout Looks: A black and white one-piece bathing suit with a cut-out in the back. We’re totally against odd tan lines, but for this yin-yang ensemble, we’ll make exceptions.
Trend Alert: Hip-hugging bikini bottoms that I’m sure love handles will appreciate.
We Could Do Without: The sometimes too-large cross necklaces worn towards the back. It looked like the heavy cross was about to choke the fragile models. Even to the front, the cross seemed to weigh the models down.
The Vibe: Nice (flowers, penguins, pastels) meets Naughty (cheetah print, and a devilish red, black and white color scheme)
The Cute Factor: The low beachy buns — though very simple — were nice to see instead of being distraught by freakishly tall or too-teased hairstyles. The models epitomized classy and sexy.
